In 2018, I spent two months driving from San Francisco to New York, exploring America’s immigration history, funded by the Overseas Development Institute. The people I met on this journey — from oyster shuckers in Alabama to doctors in West Virginia — have inspired a forthcoming audio documentaries and essays.
